Chairman: Diana Bonner debonner@verizon.net
The Landscape Design Program was established in 1952 by The National Garden Clubs, Inc. in order to develop in its membership a greater appreciation of the environment, both natural and manmade, and to advance the fine art of gardening, landscape design and the study of horticulture. After a series of four courses, the garden club member is eligible to become a Landscape Design Consultant and may join a Landscape Design Council after two courses by paying dues of $10.00 annually. Educated garden club members are needed to serve as members of the design profession in planning grounds of public buildings, parks and roadsides; and to share their influence with public officials to insist that competent professionals in landscape architectural design be employed to plan public outdoor areas.
OBJECTIVES:
- Develop a greater sense of appreciation, pride and knowledge about our private and public gardens.
- Become better educated to make changes in our surroundings so that they will be more beautiful, useful, convenient, ecologically sound and easily maintained.
- Stimulate interest in all phases of landscape design, including community planning that will affect all our lives.
- Develop a large number of Landscape Design Consultants to serve in such decision making areas of public life as providing leadership, educational programs, scholarships and awards and promoting better landscape design.
AWARDS: Landscape Design Council Awards are available to any FGCMD garden club submitting an application for outstanding landscape work at a public site. The cash awards are: 1st place $150, 2nd place $100, 3rd place $50 and Honorable Mention $25.
